Mercury Spotters rejoice!
Our tiniest planet is at the Great Western Elongation next week on March 6!
Because Mercury orbits closer to the sun than us, it can be tough to spot -- zipping back and forth around our nearest star, but we re Star Gazers -- we re here to help!
First: on February 26th, Mercury is going to hit the highest point in the sky but it s still low at about 12-degrees (one fist-high is about 10-degrees).
Head out before sunrise and find a spot without obstruction of the horizon.
Just before sunrise, keep a sharp eye out for a tiny speck of light that speck is lil sun-soaked Mercury!
Next week on March 6 Merc hits its Western Elongation -- the edge of its orbit from our perspective!
If you watch Mercury all week, you ll ALSO see Jupiter and Saturn clustered together!
