Autumn is my favorite season to stargaze because
it s just so CRISP outside.
MMm.
Let s use this coolness to find the celestial
princess Andromeda!
To spot her, face east anytime this week after
sunset.
There, you might recall the Great Square of
Pegasus from last month.
Starting at the upper-right, counter-clockwise
we have Markab, She-ott, Alpheratz and Algenib!
That s the body of ol Peggy.
Draw a line to the left from ALPHERATZ and
you ll find Andromeda s hip MIRACH, and
ALMACH, her foot!
If it s dark enough where you are, up and
to the left of Mirach is the furthest object
we can see with the naked eye -- the incredible
Andromeda Galaxy, M31!
It s a barred-spiral galaxy just like ours.
Chances are if you ve seen pictures of our
galaxy, they re really just M31!
