The Arkansas Governor's Quiz Bowl is a statewide celebration and recognition of scholarship as an Arkansas PBS tradition. The program has been testing students knowledge and bringing future leaders into the spotlight since 1985. I want to thank everyone who participated in Quiz Bowl this year and congratulate those who've made it to the finals here today. Here's a softball to get you started. What year did Arkansas become a state? Hello and welcome. We are live from the Arkansas PBS studios in Conway, its Twin Bowl 2023. We have an exciting day in store for you with 14 high school teams competing to see who will win the Arkansas Governor's Quiz Bowl Association state championship. There are seven matches on tap for today, starting with these seven a championship, followed by the 4a5a and three eight classifications. Then after a short break, we will be back with 6a1a and two A classifications. Now, what are the rules for quiz bowl? Well, here's a short primer. A quiz bowl match is made up of four rounds round one. The first round is simply a 20 question tossup round. Each correct answer is worth ten points. Round two. Round two also features toss up questions. And if you buzz in and get one of those right, your team will receive four bonus questions worth five points each. The third round is the lightning round. The team that is behind at the end of round two gets first choice from three categories presented by the quizmaster. They have 60 seconds to answer ten questions for ten points each, and if they get all ten questions right, they receive a 20 point bonus. Any questions that a team misses, the other team can steal. Round four is back to 20 Toss of questions. Al Davis, our local quiz bowl expert. Thank you for being here today. Oh, you're welcome. We appreciate it very much. So those are the rules and it kind of explained how it works, but it can be a little bit complicated. So those later rounds, though, they can be very, very interesting and fun to watch. Yes, but it's not as complicated as it seems because the first round and the fourth round are just 20 questions. And the students have to stand on their own. They can't collaborate, but the second round and the third round last points, but a little trickier. But they get to talk to each other. Those will be interesting rounds to watch. It's really fun to watch them collaborate and work together. So thank you so much. And I know we're going to be hearing a lot more from you throughout the day. So thank you very much for your insight and your expertise. Now let's meet the teams for our seven, a conference championship match between the Fayetteville Purple Bulldogs and the Conway Swamp. We are currently in the middle of round one, which is between Fayetteville and Conway. Fayetteville is currently in the lead, but there are still three rounds to go. So let's go back over to the quizmaster for round two. Well, welcome back here to the studios at Arkansas PBS. And we've got a great match going between Fayetteville and Conway. And the Conway kids have already invited me to their musical The Night of Kiss Me Kate. And but they got to focus now, not on singing, but on answering quiz bowl questions so they can catch up in this round. All right. Well, with that said, here is our first question in round two. Round two. Just to make sure that all of kings know that answer is all thing. All thing. But you got three out of the four or so, 25 points total on that one question. Good job. All right. Both teams are ready for the next toss up. Here we go. What is the name for the code of conduct for Samurai James Bushido? Code? It's your turn, James, to give Conway a bonus category. All right. So once again, three out of the four. So 25 points added to your score and they're catching up. Well, you're going to have to do your job here in a second. All right. We're going to try to get the next tool of the math computation. All right. But are you ready? Here we go. We got 20 seconds on the clock. What is the equation of the axis of symmetry? Of Y equals 24 X squared, -36 x minus pi. All right, give me x equals three. Four. It's coming. And your turn during a bonus for your team. Good job. Three fourths. I'd still be sitting at home looking for my paper and pencil on that. All right. It's called Authors in the Family. Authors. A u. T h. This unit for energy joules, joule, joule and vector quantity equivalent to the product of velocity and mass momentum. Leave it to mass. It's okay. Momentum. Momentum. Nicely done and nicely done by both schools on that round. All right. So that's going to end round two for us and what we'll need to do is take a short break while the well, the schools decide if they want to sub and well, we'll get the categories here in just a moment. So let's cross over Christina for a moment and then we'll be back with the categories. Thank you so much, Steve. So, all right, Bill, we are waiting to find out if there are any challenges or substitutions from round two. So once we do that, the quizmaster will be able to announce categories for the Lightning Round. Now, in the Lightning Round, teams will be picking from a set of ten question categories to try to answer within a minute. So what factors do teams consider when they're deciding which categories to select? Couple of things they need to consider. One is how much do I know? And the other is how much does the other team know? With these two teams, they're going to be paying more attention to what we know. And can we run the 62nd round? Remember, if you run the 62nd round, you answer all ten, you get a 20 point bonus. And this would be what Conway would love to do right now. And they get the first choice. There's three. So they get the first choice and that'd be great. Take note of this. In that first quarter, there were only four questions that weren't answered by these two teams. And take note of this. Conway has been behind only to just charge forward in nearly catch him two or three times. Right. If I were Farmville, I'd be a little nervous if I were Conway. They're going to be complete. They're going to be more aggressive. And that might cost them because they'll jump in quicker. However they have the ability. This is going to be a really close match. Okay. Well, we have heard there are no challenges. So it is time for us to go back to the quiz Master Steve. All right. Welcome back. It is time to choose our Lightning Round category and Conway, you get to pick first from these three choices and then a favor. Then you'll pick one of the other two. All right, so we have these biology terms, starting with the letter G. Okay. Category two is called Landmark Supreme Court cases. Identify these landmark Supreme Court cases from a description. We are in the exact middle of the seven, a championship match between Fayetteville and Conway and Conway. You had to pick their category first and they have chosen landmark Supreme Court cases and then, Janet, you in the Fayetteville group chose the biology term, starting with the gene. So they have made substitutions. Danielle and Ethan are in over here for Conway. And over here we brought in Tosh and Allen are both in for the Fayetteville Group. So good to have you all in the game and good luck to both schools. You're going to get one minute. As you know, to answer as many as ten questions in that minute. So that's ruled that separate but equal is inherently unequal. All right. Well, the minute past up there and you probably knew the answer to that last one, but they won't pass over because you did not give an answer. Let's see you miss. The number two established that private property subject to public regulation, if it's devoted to public use, no. And also requires states to license and recognize same sex marriage versus Hodges. Yes. All right. The one that we both schools missed was man versus Illinois. Man was unknown. And then the one that the timer now ruled that separate but equal is inherently an equal was brown versus the Board of Education of Topeka. All right. They've had their chance. Now Fayetteville is your chance. And Conway, you be ready for bounce backs over here as we give them these biology terms that start with a G. Okay. You understand the category. All right, here we go then. We've got a minute on the clock. Genetic makeup of an organism. Genotype genes due to enter genotype. Yes. Reproductive cell of an animal or plant. Tell you Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, Yes. Mass of nerve cells. No globin, no respiratory organ found in aquatic animals. Gills? Process in which glucose is partially broken down by cells and is causes. Oh, we can't see them. Okay. Right. We're not passing that one over because of the time being calm. All right. Now I've got that. They get three answers and a third question. Sorry, Jack. Hey, Jack. These are also G, and they're all biology. All right, The first one is a mass of nerve cells. Ganglion. Yes. Another name for the esophagus connecting mouth to stomach. I think it's class. Okay, Gladys. No, it's kind of small filtration. Oh, pardon me. So small collection of capillaries in the kidneys where blood filtration takes place. No answer. That one is glamor. Glamor. Alice. Glamor. Alice. I've never heard of it myself. Another name for the esophagus connecting the mouth to the stomach was Gullet. Gullet. All right. Okay, so we've got a score at the end of round three of 230 to 160. Are we going to have any challenges here? No challenges over here. So we're going to go to Christine in a lot of teams to make substitutions. All right. Thank you so much. See, we have a final round coming up for this first match of the day. But for right now, we're going to take a quick break and we'll be right back. I. We recently had a challenge before we went to break and we now have a judge with us, Rick Cloe, to explain what that challenge was and what the outcome was. Take it away. So the Arkadelphia coach had a challenge concerning an interrupted question, and in that interrupted question, the student gave an answer that would been correct had but it would not have been correct had the question been completed. So at the end of the question, it said to give another name for the Pentateuch and other than the Pentateuch and the student had said Pentateuch. So because you interrupt when you interrupt the question, you take the the risk of not getting your answer rule correct because there may be a change or a hook at the end of the question, unfortunately. And that's what happened this time. So no points were awarded. Okay. Well, thank you so much for explaining that to us and we appreciate that very much. Let's go ahead and continue the match up and send it back over to the quizmaster. All right. We are back in the for a championship. We have Arkadelphia with the score safety bog side with a score of 30. So we now enter into our second round, round two, which is our toss up and bonus round. Notice how box I charged and got ahead for a while So Arkadelphia doesn't have this in the bucket. You know, I mean, anything can happen. That's what's so exciting about these matches and to watch them. And so we are halfway through the match heading into round three. Now you've watched a lot of quiz of all over the years. How do you gauge a team's confidence and comfort behind the buzzer at this point? It takes a lot of practice because when you put somebody up there, you're in a pressure point. However, the teams we've watched this morning, it's obvious that they're confident and it's obvious that they're comfortable. They're not having to look away. They're not having to check with somebody else. They are doing their job. Another thing you'll notice when you have a challenge, they kind of relax because once the challenge is filed, the players can relax. They're out of the loop. They're right and that's the way it should be. Then when you fire back at and the questions start coming their way, they have to be good listeners, which means they have to be comfortable. You can't be fidgety and be a good listener. You've got to listen to every word and look for that key word. It's going to give you the answer. Well, these are very comfortable folks, which is impressive because it is a lot of pressure. It's intense. You can feel it in the room. So I'm very, very aware. And the environment is different here. When you go to an invitational, you're on a school campus, you're probably sit in a classroom. This is not a classroom that's totally different. And they've adapted to it they've done a very good job with that. So let's throw it back to the quizmaster right now. Go ahead, Greg. All right. Thanks, Christina. Again, as we enter the second half of our match, round three was the lightning round backside trails after the first half. So they will get to choose first in the lightning rounds. Coaches have the right to call a timeout in the first and fourth quarter. They can also call timeout for the others, not third quarter when it's getting started and they use it at this time of the game in order to put students in and give them this atmosphere, they're looking forward, not not back where they're wanting students to be able to sit there for a few minutes and give the feel of what this is like in the studio. And that's what they're doing. Now, remember, bauxite can't substitute because there's only five members, right? But Arkadelphia has 17 in their squad. Wow. Yeah. Now, maybe not all of those are identified as quiz bowlers, but I will say this as a coach, I always took several. Sometimes I'd have 20 or 25 because you want them to be involved and they are involved. We've got a lot of students that are involved that's not in front of the camera. They're doing research. They're looking at. Was that correct? Is there another question answer to that question, so forth and so on? And just to be involved this experience and feel the love and the excitement of that is a huge experience for all of us. And another thing is to it helps the students that are in front of the camera because they've got that support system in the back. Okay, Well, the timeout has been completed, so we're going to send it back over to the quizmaster. All right. Welcome back. Leave it to Steve Patterson to do the one thing all day long that we hadn't practiced on, and that was for that time. I also leave it to him for that. I apologize for that. But he wanted to get some folks in there. Good job, Steve. You had any challenges, any challenges over here saying no challenges that will give us the opportunity to congratulate the for a runner up bauxite with a score of 215 points and the four day champion Arkadelphia with 290 points. And we'll send it over to first day. That very excited in here. Of course, that was a great matchup between faced wonderful game well by both teams. And I want to mention something about these math questions that they're when they're computational, let's not forget they get 20 seconds they only have pencil and paper. Wow. A lot of those students will figure out through the course of the year how to do a lot of that computation in their head. Sure. And they're encouraged to do that. Okay. Well, it's hard either way from just watching the boy. They are so quick on that. So we will be right back to celebrate the winners, of course. There are a couple of things about the two teams. They're both very well coached and both very well prepared for this. But Views got two of their team members. That is in Washington, D.C. today. Oh, we can kind of relax. We got somebody over there with some brains. Also, baseball has played some really close matches. They've won some by just ten points. That's one question. Wow. So you're not going to put too much heat on either one of these teams? I'm anxious to watch this. It's going to be fantastic. All right. With without anymore further ado, let's get to it. So let's go over to our quizmaster, Steve Patterson, and find out who will be the five state champion for our quiz bowl 2023, Round one. Well, it is good to see Valley View and Batesville back in their spots. I guess we're going to have to start naming the five after these two teams. Great job on getting here today. There are a lot of great five eight teams there and you've risen to the top. And so at the close today, we'll have our state runner up and have our state champion four, five. Welcome back to our five a match up where Valley View is just barely ahead of Batesville. But there's plenty time for anything to happen. So let's get back over to the quizmaster for round two. All right, before we begin to round them, we have in the game now for Valley View. Jack has come into the game. Jack, good to have you in over here for Batesville. We have Tyler. So those those two can make the difference now in this round. So we're going to find out. All right. Just one question away from catching up over here. Batesville and Valley View. Your job is not to let that happen right round for. Okay, so round two, you have the chance to get a bonus question when you get to town. So, Brian, and you can confirm Maggie, you're our captain and tie your captain over here. So we're ready to win around to the eastern of the two rivers that made up the borders of the air tie Tigris. You're right. And you've earned a bonus in it called Silent Film Stars. I'm sure you remember the old silent days before the talkies, silent film stars identify these from a brief description, American actor and cowboy star of 291 early Westerns from 1909 to 1935, all but nine were silent films. John Wayne No, he was in the talkies. All right. Because to do nicknamed that the IT Girl, she embodied the full of life independent flapper of the 1920s. Clara Bow Yes. Okay. This Italian American romantic lead her most famous movie. What are his most pardon me his most famous movie was the son of the sheet after which he died suddenly at age 31. Charles Rogers. Charles Rogers? No. And this Canadian-American actress was known as America's Sweetheart and the queen of the movies. Yeah, maybe. Monroe. No, that one was Mary Pickford and the Cowboys star was Tom Mix. And then the son of the chic actor was Rudolph Valentino. Okay, but you got one. And so that's 15 points for the group and just five points away now from Valley View. Let's see which team can the next bonus here with this toss up it happens to be math computation. All right. Here it is. What is the expanded form of log to x, y, Caden, log two plus log X plus log Y. Yes. All right. So you've earned a bonus for the Valley View team called Trigonometric Conversions. You're going to get 20 seconds to answer each of these. You must search your answer within the 20 seconds. Okay. It says convert these angles from radians to degrees PI. Radians. Answer 180 degrees. Yes. Pi divided by six radians. Answer 30 degrees yes to pi divided by three radians. Answer 120 degrees yes. And number four pi divided by four radians. Answer 45 degrees. Right. So all four of those. Correct. Good for a total of 30 points on that one question. All right. Here's the next toss up for both schools. In the 1920s, Jamaican political activist and black nationalist Marcus Garvey predicted look to Africa when a black king shall be crowned for the day of deliverance. Is that hand which Emperor Thai Haile Selassie. You're right. And you've earned your team a bonus called a I assistance. Identify these artificial intelligence assistance. From a brief description, this Amazon assistant allows the user to ask questions, carry out tasks, play music and set alarms. Alexa Yes, This Microsoft assistant answers questions and takes notes, provides reminders and helps manage calendars. Cortana Yes, This assistant relies on natural user interface to make phone calls and text messages and dictate location. Siri Yes. And number four, the This meeting assistant records transcribe and searches voice conversations, allowing users to skim quickly through long meetings. Zoom No, that one is fireflies. Fireflies. I need to get that because love to zoom quickly through long meetings. All right. Well, three out of four, though, that's pretty good. So 25 points on left category. All right, we've got one left. Don't we see who can get it with this toss up question in this Elizabethan play, a German doctor who becomes dissatisfied with traditional forms of knowledge wants to practice magic, makes a deal with a demon. CHARLES Doctor Faustus, you've earned the last bonus. Charles And it is called Arthurian legends, Arthurian legend. So, all right, identify these people from the legends King Arthur. This son of Lancelot is named by King Arthur as the greatest of all knights, because he completed the quest for the Holy Grail pass. As Arthur's counselor and magician, he guides Arthur to draw Excalibur from the stone and creates the round table pass wife of King Arthur, who is in love with Sir Lancelot Pass, and the son of King Arthur and Morgan Le Fay, who him is killed by his father in Battle Pass. And I have a feeling you knew probably all of those, but a little strategy going, isn't there, so that we can have a tied game going into the lightning round. And judges remind me what we flipped the coin? Or do they get to pick who gets to pick because they get to oh, they're calling the coin flip. Okay. I know you all flipping. Okay, Ty, you get to call heads or tails. Don't do it, Chad. And whatever the results are, that's what your goal is, right? It's heads. It is. It is hands. So you all will pick first and then value you pick from the other two. So right now, scores tied at 120. And we're going to go over to Christine and Bill. Okay. Well, thank you so much. So that was exciting and a little entertaining there. That actually that's a strategy. So explain kind of what happened there. That's a strategy. Baseball did not want to be behind and not any chance of picking be the first one to pick. So once they realized they were tied, I'm going to gamble with the flip of the coin and they would get to call it it wouldn't make any difference which one called it. But what you're doing is you're wanting to pick first, and that's what makes for just one. That's a good strategy. There's a couple of other strategies in this quarter that coaches and players use. One is in the course of having the ten questions, you can pass on a question that means that opportunity will go to the other team because you didn't answer it. You can it will go to the other side. The other strategy is you can stall. If you stall, it kills the rest of the 62nd round and the rest of the questions. So the other team, your opposing team, won't get any chance. I have seen teams pick an area that they knew the other team was really good at and then just kill it. Wow. So they wouldn't get a chance to go through it and neither one of these teams will stop. These are good enough teams. They're going to go for whatever they find and we may see the first six second round run with these. Without your support, there would be no finding your roots. And without your support, there would be no PBS. Oh, Arkansas. It was recognized, it was resolved. There was no change in the score, which means we are back and ready for the final round. Let's send it over to the quizmaster for Take it away, Round four. Well, you can see that the Batesville strategy was effective. That last question, even though they probably knew most, if not all of those Arthurian answers. So now we have a score of Batesville 250 and Valley View 190. So 60 questions. But there are 20 questions left. So it's very quite doable here, isn't it, for Valley View to come back? And they told you you want to hold on and maintain your lead. So this is an exciting one. This one will go down in the books as one of the best matches we've had in a long time. That's pretty exciting as you're staying in the game. But William and Jack are back and Kayden, you're steady and okay, well, here we go with our last round of 20 tossup questions. Y'all ready? Christina, we are currently in a time situation and I kind of want to know a little bit about strategy wise. Why was this taken at this point? Well, again, like we said earlier, in an earlier game, the coach wants to get somebody in. But if you'll notice on this one, the captain was signifying timeout because he was watching the score and he's already calculated this game's over. You know, now our value cannot get back. They can't win. So he was asking his coach, take note of that and put some other folks in here so that we can keep this going. They're going to win two back to back. Wow. They may be back. And next year, I would not be surprised if Valley View doesn't come back and will come back to we've seen this before, the same match up. And they're both very good and very qualified, but they really did kind of pull away there. No, take note. We've watched three games. This is the third game today. And baseball was the first team to run a 62nd run. We may not see that happen the rest of the day. Absolutely remarkable. And it's been so much fun to watch. So thank you that that wraps up the timeouts. We're going to head back over to the quizmaster. Well, welcome back. Timeout was taken and some people were moved in and out. Gwynn is in for Batesville and Quinton and Robert. So good to have them. And then over here on the Valley View side goes back just to the other end and Isaac is back in to see Isaac and Adrian is in. And Elizabeth said, All right, well, we get to see everybody play today. And That's nice. All right. We're ready to finish up the championship game here. All right. Well, here we go. Here and here. Okay, so in five they are first runner up in Quiz Bull with 250 points is Valley View High School and our new state five eight champion is also our old five eight stage. It is made to with 350 points so congratulations. All right now another match. We have another runner up and another champion. Of course, I love that he mentioned Maggie and the way she wins. No paper. She can see it right in front of her as she works it out. You know, these two teams were very, very good. And it's a shame that the score was far apart. But then I would have guessed if you played them again. I don't think you could pick the winner. Yes, but congratulations debatable Back to back is hard to do. Very hard. But I see. And they're team members. He's got a little program going here. He's some freshmen and some sophomores juniors coming up. But I also see that in Valley View. So I will not be surprised at all if next year we don't see Batesville in Valley View. In the final view. Boy, and some of those questions were answered so fast you get a lot of the question is so very impressive and congrats. We will be back after this because we will have a congratulatory ceremony. This one here, because this was a tight, tight race for up to the last. And our MVP is actually. Yes Alexander Tose from Batesville. Where are you? Your so you get a medal and this But let me tell you how close it was. You got it by six hundredths of a point. How do you think about having to apply? Because the Valley View student could not be here today. He had you almost added you. He had a look. You had points six, six or something. He had 4.60. And for Lawrence King. So he was close. We also have a number of other all tournament players we have so was due from Dardanelle. He actually beat both of you with his score. So he's considered the high point player. And we have Isaac Czarnecki from Morrilton. Nope, no, no, he's too rich. Got off the line on that. Great. Raul Prewitt from Morrilton Drew Phelps of the Lone Year. And then we have another person that's still here today, Tom Bishop. You are on the All-tournament team of Korea Kareem from Magnolia and Alex Stevens from Harrison. That is our All-tournament team for this group of schools. Congratulations, all of you. Wonderful. Well, once again, congrats to all of you. You played a well, hard fought match, so impressive and so very good. So congrats to everybody here. And thank you, Carolyn, as well. And I guess we also have some scholarships to award, is that correct? Do Yes, indeed. So we'd like for Spencer Watson and our two scholarship recipients to come up here while they were up here sort. But they've got to come to the middle a little bit and we will let you give them their prizes. Fantastic. Thank you, Carolyn. So again, my name is Spencer Watson. It is always a thrill to be here if you squint real close at some of the footage you've seen earlier between games, you might see a much younger version of me competing in Quiz Bowl, but I'm excited to be back today representing Arkansas friends of Quiz Bowl. We are a nonprofit organization of volunteers that was invited, I guess, about ten years ago by Ajakaye to administer an annual scholarship for students. We are again a volunteer group and our board is made up of alumni like me, former coaches, current coaches, as well as members of the choir board to provide a lot of different perspectives. And primarily what we do is we administer scholarship by hosting an invitational tournament each year, an enormous tournament with lots of teams, high schools, junior high, even middle school competing every year. Although I would note we do have room on board right now if there are any philanthropic Bill Gates like members out there that have an interest, we would welcome your attention. But primarily we fund it through the tournament, which is really cool because it's quiz ball perpetuating quiz bowl. And what we're here today is share the results of that. The scholarship process is after these students submit their application, they names are removed and they are assigned numbers. And so the review process is completely blind. And I'm here today to introduce to two exceptional young people who are here to receive those scholarships. First is Levi Cherry of Murfreesboro High School. Levi is a six year captain and studies geography and has translated that knowledge into wanting to major in aviation and become a pilot. Correct. So congratulations, Levi, thank. And I'd also like to introduce Abigail Gonzalez. Abby is from McQueen High School and she came to Chris Ball is very much a generalist, but has learned the power of specialization and relying on teammates. As someone who has accepted a tremendous amount of responsibility at her home. So, Abigail, wherever you go and whatever you do, we wish you the best of success and we want to offer our congratulations. Thank you very much. Okay, wonderful. One more final round of applause for everybody. All the participants and the scholarship winners. Congratulations to all of you. And that is three matches down. Four more to go. Up next, we have the three a, the state championship between the Mountain View, Yellowjackets and Hawes Hall, Fayetteville Live right here in just a few minutes on Arkansas PBS. The Arkansas Governor's Quiz Bowl is a statewide celebration and recognition of scholarship as an Arkansas tradition. The program has been testing students knowledge and bringing future leaders into the spotlight since 1985. I want to thank everyone who participated in Quiz Bowl this year and congratulate those who have made it to the finals here today. Here's a softball to get you started. What year did Arkansas become a state state? Good afternoon and welcome. We are live from the Arkansas CBS studios in Conway. It is Christmas 2023. This is our fifth match of the day. And we are going to find out who will be our sixth Arkansas Governors Quiz Bowl Association champion. Now, if you're unfamiliar with Quiz Bowl, here's a refresher on the rules of Quiz Bowl. Any questions that a team misses? The other team who steal round four is back to 20 toss of questions. And now let's meet the teams for our six day conference championship matchup between the Russellville Cyclones and the Benton Panthers. Hello, my name is Daniel. I'm a junior. It's a great day to be a fighting panther. Okay. Two very well known schools. And so we have our quiz bowl expert with us, Bill Davis. I'm curious to know, what do you of this matchup, what do you what can we expect? One of the things that jumps out at me is that Russellville has only got juniors in softball. No, same here, seniors. Then when you look at Benton you got several seniors on that team. So it's going to be kind of interesting to see how this stacks up. The other thing that I gathered from the Russellville coach was Mr. Gray, that they have been here eight years in a row. This is their 80. Wow. And they have only lost once. And the one they lost was the first year they came. Wow. So they are pretty hard to beat. And Benton, on the other hand, used to be here all the time okay. And I heard one of their players say and it was prom tonight and I've seen them show up with gowns and all kind of thing. This is going to be an excellent match. Okay. Fast. There'll be a lot of anticipation. All the questions. Sounds great. Well, let's get to it and turn things over to our quizmaster, Steve Patterson, to find out who will be the six. So we're going to start the game and I wish you well. Do you have your buzzers ready? All right. Here we go. Yes, this was on number three, where the question was H3 three for the challenge that was presented by Russellville was that instead of saying phosphoric acid, they said phosphoric acid. And what we're deciding to do is we're going to throw that question out. But because Benton would have got that incorrect, Russellville needs a chance at a bounce back to steel. So we're going to give them the extra on this lightning round that Steve will be asking them. And that's a chance for Russellville to steal those ten points. Okay. So on that note, let's go back to the quizmaster and play this out, Steve. All right. Well, welcome back. And we had the challenge and the judges have ruled in favor of Russellville. Your treasure may be worth more than you know this month in in a big congratulations to both teams and all the coaches and everybody involved with this final match of day. And of course, we're back with Carolyn Try and friends with Arkansas Governors Quiz Bowl Association. Well, let's do the final awards. Let's do it. Yes, indeed. So we have our second place team over here live with Christian. They get their second place plaque that stands up and they also get a check for 1500 dollars, a big one. They can put it on the wall and then we'll win the second. Okay. Then we have a first place team and told us a little bit ago, I think first place for Hustle Bentonville and you get a big check for $3,000 if you can show on the wall as well as one to actually cash and your banner to hang as well. Perfect. Then there's never really been any question since back at the state level, probably before even of who the MVP over ball was going to be, because he was like averaging oh 15 points over on the average every game or and of course, it's Emmanuel Peters, but you get both of those. Then we have a few other all tournament players who are from all around state as well as possibly, oh, I think there's one or two of us around here maybe too. We'll see you here in a minute. We have Emmanuel over from like with Christian and Bryce Mallett from Saint Joseph, Alex Lower from all Bentonville. You are on their park referral from East Points at Jodie Lane Harper from Hazen, Dillon, Desmond from Rising, Zay Newton from Ethan Bailey from Bentonville. So Rachel, the guy from the household Springdale and Carson Buffalo Island Central, those are our all tournament team for this level of two schools. And this is our last game of the day and we are excited and they are excited. So congratulations, everyone. Absolutely. One more round of applause for everybody. And Carolyn, thank you so much. And on behalf of everyone at the association, we thank you very much. And that is a wrap for Quiz Bowl 2023, seven matches and seven champions. We want to thank everyone involved with pulling this tremendous undertaking off. There are so many people helping behind the scenes volunteering their time on a Saturday to make these broadcast go as smoothly as possible. We could not do this without all of them. So thank you very much. And of course, we want to thank you for watching. We hope to see you again back here next year.
