(mouse clicking) - When it comes to older adults using the internet, there are several rewards. Social connection, the opportunity to learn new things, the opportunity to find services in the community or figure out how to stay engaged and volunteer. The risk though that are there are enormous. There are so many scams now and a lot of older adults are using the internet and want to use the internet, but didn't grow up with computers, and so don't have as much experience in understanding how to use the internet and particularly what the threats are and how to watch out for those things. - Let's test your internet knowledge. - Education is key for all of us to stay aware and to stay what we like to call scam smart. So we have to know what are the scams that are out there that are targeting us online? What are the red flags to watch for and what can you do about it so that you don't fall victim to a scam? - [Instructor] Today we're going to talk about internet safety and I know... - [Grace] There are a lot of organizations that are involved in digital literacy and education, so older adults can find out more information at their local senior center or at their public library. - [Instructor] A hacker is a person that attempts to steal information or cause damage to your computer. We hear about... - What Age Well Middle Tennessee does to help older adults is we have a free monthly scam of the month alert that anyone can sign up for and you'll receive an email that keeps you informed about the latest scams and how to protect yourself. We also do scam prevention workshops throughout the community. - [Speaker] I congratulate you are doing the best thing you can do to not be scammed. - [Grace] Our hope is that older adults are gonna become much more aware of how to protect themselves online. So that when they are approached by a scammer, they'll be able to know how to respond so they don't fall victim.
