(playful music) - Mommy is gonna go hide the clothespins with letters on them, and you find them, and let me know what letter and sound it makes. My son is 6 years old and loves to explore the outdoors. No peeking. (boy chuckles) We use an alphabet hunt activity that allows Ellis to explore and improve his literacy skills. I write alphabet letters on a clothespin and then hide it in an area in the yard for Ellis to find. This is boosting observation skills and early learning skills. When a letter is found, I have Ellis say the name and sound of the letter. Let's go see how many you can find. - Okay. - Ready? - Uh-huh. - Okay. - [Ellis] It almost fell off. - Alphabet hunts can be done just about anywhere and they promote literacy in a fun, relaxed and natural way. I don't think you know where it is. - Yes I do. - P for pot. - Yeah it is. P for pot. Good job. Hey, you did it. Good job, buddy. - [Narrator] Sponsored by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
