Kentucky State Representative Lamine Swan held a press conference today to push legislation he says would take a step toward ending housing discrimination. House Bill 437 would stop landlords from refusing to accept government assistance and child support as income. Representative Swan says the practice is called source income, discriminate action. This disproportionately affects renters of color, women, persons with disabilities and source of income discrimination. Asian contributes to a continuation of racially segregated communities in neighborhoods concentrated in poverty. Representative Swan was joined by members of the Group of Kentucky tenants. House Bill 437, has not been given a committee assignment. Both Swan and members of Kentucky tenants called for Lexington's Urban County Council to address the issue as well.
