From the STCU performance space at KSPS PBS its Inland Sessions. With a whimsical whistle and a glittering mandolin, the band Floating Crowbar brings the sounds of the Irish countryside to our Inland Empire. Plus, see traditional Irish dance from the local, award-winning Haran School of Irish Dance. Right now on Inland Sessions. Hi, I'm Don Thomsen and I am a member of the Floating Crowbar band and we play Irish traditional music. And I'm Morgan Andersen. And tonight we are also joined by the Haran School of Dance. We've taken several trips to Ireland together. And this next song, Right Tearnin, we first heard in a pub in County Galway. Both Rick and James looked at each other and said, That's great, we've got to get that song. One of the reasons we fell in love with this song at the time is that it's about the traveling people uh, going from the north part of the west coast to the south, and they mention many place names along the way, and we have been to virtually all of those places. So that's one of the reasons that we were charmed by this song. And it's called Right Tearnin. And at the end of Right Tearnin we've added on a waltz called Dympnas waltz. Dympna was a lovely woman who played the concertina as well as anyone I've ever heard, and a friend of ours, someone we met in Mayo, County Mayo, Joe Carey, wrote this tune called Dympnas waltz for his good friend, Dympna. I'll not speak unkindly of solder and tin, Of the great traveling craftsmen John Martin and Jim, Not lazy or polished like some settled men Who envy our freedom, our ways and our women, Right tearnin Right tearnin Right tearnin away Theres a fair in Belaghy this fine summers day Right tearnin Right tearnin Right tearnin away Theres a fair in Belaghy this fine summers day Farewell to the Coveys ‘round Westport Mayo, Well travel through Shamtown to Ballinasloe, To the walled town of Galway then southward, Hooray! Theres a fair in Belaghy this fine summers day It was down at the salley gardens my love and I did meet; She crossed the salley gardens with her dainty snow-white feet. She begged me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree; But I was young and foolish, and with her did not agree. In a field down by the river my love and I did stand, and leaning on my shoulder, she laid her snow-white hand She bid me take life easy, as the grass grows on the weirs; But I was young and foolish, and now am full of tears.
