Join us in celebrating excellence in education with this Golden Apple Moment. Many of the learners that I work with are on the autism spectrum, and I have to plan accordingly with the understanding that some learners are not going to pay attention to the direct instruction; and I'm going to sit down with them one on one and go over the lesson with them that way. If you can identify small steps they can make and acknowledge they've made those steps. You can then say, Hey, look, look how far you progressed. You've made progress. You're better off now with your math skills than you were when you first walked in the room. Instead of saying, Hey, look, you know, we wanted to climb this mountain and you only got up 500 feet, we're going to say, Hey, our goal was to get you up 500 feet and you did it.
