- It is not often you get to
introduce a living legend,

but that is my honor
tonight, for simply stated,

John Williams is America's
greatest living composer.

(audience cheering)

In a career that's lasted
over half a century,

he's composed the musical scores

for many of the worlds most beloved films,

Star Wars, Jaws, E.T, Jurassic Park,

the Indiana Jones series, Harry Potter,

and dozens more.

Now, if you're more of a
sports fan than a movie fan

you've heard some of his other great work.

For he also composed the theme music

for Sunday Night Fooball and
for four of the Olympic Games.

Let me note, 2012 is not
only an Olympic year,

it is a landmark year

for this five time Academy Award winner

and 21 time Grammy winner.

For he's celebrating his 80th birthday.

Let's all wish him a happy birthday.

(audience cheering)

And now, it's time to begin our salute

to our Olympic athletes,

lead by the man who
composed this inspiring

Olympic fanfare in theme.

Accompanied by the U.S
Army Herald Trumpets,

and conducting the National
Symphony Orchestra,

please welcome, John Williams.
