WOMAN: We call it a sugar shaker, but I don't know if that's the right name.
It's an old family piece.
My great-grandparents gave it as a wedding gift to a cousin, and then at their death, it was given back to my great-aunt.
APPRAISER: This particular piece is a Findlay Onyx piece.
In Findlay, Ohio, there were a number of companies that made all different kinds of Findlay glass.
This happens to be the Onyx, which is a kind of a yellowish-white background, and then the raised gold decorations of flowers.
And this particular one was made by the Dalzell Leighton company; it's about 1889.
Now, the sugar shaker is probably a more modern version of what they referred to as a "muffineer."
GUEST: Oh.
APPRAISER: And this did have powdered sugar, and you would powder your muffins with it.
So that would be the accurate name, "muffineer."
Well, "sugar shaker" is absolutely acceptable.
You'll hear it referred to in two different ways.
And the value on it, this little, tiny piece, is $850.
GUEST: Oh, you can't be serious.
APPRAISER: I'm serious.
GUEST: Oh, my word!
